Avignon Theatre Festival 2012

This summer I visited the Avignon Theatre Festival for the first time and enjoyed the exciting atmosphere and passion of theatre in France. The plays were in French of course but this did not interfere with my comprehension.

Hippies of Goa

In 2001 I travelled to Goa India to make a documentary on the scene that existed in this small Indian State that gained independence from Portugal in 1961. It is a beautiful place and an interesting culture has emerged. There are similar cultures around the world for example the Bay Island of Utila in Honduras. These web-esode clips are part of this documentary that has taken so long to finish. There was no funding, and the video camera was pretty rubbish but I hope you enjoy. Goa is a very special place. You can play them all at the same time for an interesting result.

World Theatre Day 2012 Message

"May your work be compelling and original. May it be profound, touching, contemplative, and unique. May it help us to reflect on the question of what it means to be human, and may that reflection be blessed with heart, sincerity, candor, and grace. May you overcome adversity, censorship, poverty and nihilism, as many of you will most certainly be obliged to do.

"May you be blessed with the talent and rigor to teach us about the beating of the human heart in all its complexity, and the humility and curiosity to make it your life's work. And may the best of you - for it will only be the best of you, and even then only in the rarest and briefest moments - succeed in framing that most basic of questions, 'how do we live?' Godspeed."

- John Malkovich
